Typically, environmental education at school takes places through lectures, speeches and flyers. When SJK (C) Hu Yew Seah called to ask if Cycle Trend would like to partner with them in the school’s “A Student a Tree” project, I jumped at the opportunity to give those young minds a more practical lesson on the subject.
The project was initiated in support of the Forestry Department’s “Plant 26 Million Trees By 2014” campaign and involved the 49 pupils in the school who were to sit for the upcoming UPSR exams. It was aimed at giving the students a real-world understanding about the value of trees in our environment, but the experience also provided a useful parallel perspective about the importance of education – the seeds of knowledge that are being planted within their minds today will one day bear the fruits of wisdom and understanding.
For Cycle Trend, the event was proof that the future of our world truly does lie in the hands of our children. We believe that the seeds of environmental responsibility that our business plants today will have a profound impact on the future of our company, our community and the country.
Every little bit counts, and we are glad to have been given the opportunity to contribute to the environmental education of these children.
