Electronic Scrap Management

If properly processes, electronic scrap is a valuable source of secondary raw materials. However, if not treated correctly the same waste is also a major source of toxins.

The best counter-measure to electronic waste is reuse, which helps reduce demand for virgin raw materials as well as the quantities of pure water and electricity for associated manufacturing. Reuse also leads to less packaging and the diminished use of landfills.

Cycle Trends specialises in the disposal and destroying of electronic waste that contains sensitive proprietary technology. The scrap goes through a process of crushing and shredding to destroy all intellectual property assets before it is recycled. If necessary, we can even customise a disposal package that meets your requirements for destroying your electronic scrap.

Electronic scrap comes from a variety of sources, including:

  • Electronic component manufacturers
  • Electronic assembly companies
  • Stockists and distributors with end-of-life and obsolescent parts
  • Scrap collectors with electronic scrap
  • Insurance companies which require destruction services for the products claims
  • End-users who wish for their electronic waste and computer parts to be disposed of responsibly.

Process of Destroying

  • DISMANTLING
All waste is first recorded, verified and weighed before it is sorted into individual components by hand. These components are then dismantled and stripped down into a “waste stream” of plastic, ferrous metal and electronic scrap.

  • COMPACTING
Waste such as plastics, paper packaging and ferrous metals are crushed and compacted for easy handling and transportation before being shipped to other recyclers that specialize in such materials.

  • CRUSHING
Electronic components that may contain precious metal are stripped down and then crushed into smaller pieces in preparation for the chemical process.

Process of Recovery

  • ELECTROLYSIS
The electronic pieces are dumped into an extraction tank where the gold is separated by electrolysis. The gold flakes are collected and stored carefully.

A similar process is used to extract copper and other precious metals.

  • SEPARATOR
The processed electronic parts are crushed into powder for further processing.

Cycle Trends' separator facilities segregates dry materials according to size or weight, right down to particles as small as 1µm. We use linear, circular and elliptical, vibrating and gravity separators depending on the material to be processed.

The resulting separated materials are further filtered and stored before being prepared for transport.
